Screamify has adopted the Synthetic Motion Picture Ratings System, becoming the first streaming platform to put an AI-disclosure rating on the films and shows it puts out. The platform announced the move Wednesday.
The system lives at smprs.org and went live this week. It is a certification, not a warning label. Any film that gets certified receives an SMP rating stating how much of its production involved artificial intelligence.
There are six tiers. SMP-0 is Practical-Only: zero percent AI, live actors, real sets, a human script, traditional post. The system bills it as the gold standard and the most prestigious certification for authentic filmmaking. At the other end, SMP-5 is Fully Synthetic, 85 to 100 percent AI, covering digital humans, AI voices, fully AI sets and props, and a script written entirely by machine.
The middle of the scale is where most working productions will land. SMP-1 Assisted Practical caps AI at 15 percent and allows only non-creative cleanup. SMP-2 Enhanced Practical runs 15 to 35 percent, permitting digi-doubles and AI backdrops behind a live cast. SMP-3 Augmented Hybrid runs 35 to 60 percent and allows a script co-written up to half by AI. SMP-4 Synthetic-Lean Hybrid runs 60 to 85 percent, with human principals in front of majority-AI environments.
Each tier carries its own badge color, running from deep green at SMP-0 through orange and red in the hybrid range to purple at SMP-5. Certified films are listed in a public film vault on the site.
The certification is pitched as a credential rather than a disclaimer. A production earns a rating and gets a badge set to carry into distribution, which puts a low number on the same footing as any other selling point on a poster.
Screamify says every Original film and TV show on the service will carry a rating. A Screamify representative said the platform's position is that a viewer should be able to see how a movie was made before pressing play, not after.
The first title to wear a number is already dated. Multiverse, Screamify's fully AI-generated interdimensional-cable channel, arrives on the platform in October rated SMP-5 Fully Synthetic.
Certification is filmmaker-submitted. A production registers its title, attests that the information is accurate, and pays $29.99 for the rating and badge set.
Screamify pushed the announcement across its social accounts Wednesday with a sizzle reel, a three-card carousel and a 45-second explainer.
No other streaming service has signed on to the system yet.
