The Horrored Girls is officially back. Season 2 of the Screamify video podcast dropped today, October 7, streaming free on the platform, and the premiere wastes no time pulling in a major guest: Happy Death Day star Jessica Rothe. The episode, titled "Jessica Rothe: Death Looks Good on Her," runs about 61 minutes and marks the first new installment since Season 1 wrapped in 2025.

Hosts Geri Courtney-Austein, the show's self-described scaredy cat, and Harley Bronwyn, its resident scream queen, are taping from a brand new studio this season, with a producer now chiming in on mic for the first time. The pair's format stays the same: rating horror by thirst, thrills and nightmare fuel across three running bits, the Prairie Dog Meter for jump scares, the Martini Meter for villain thirst, and the Night Light Meter for pure nightmare fuel.

Rothe Brings the Snakes

Rothe is best known as Tree Gelbman in Happy Death Day and its sequel Happy Death Day 2U, along with roles in La La Land and the thriller Affection. The hosts used the episode to promote her latest project, Beware Boiúna, a giant-snake creature feature directed by Mike P. Nelson and written by Alan B. McElroy, co-starring Kiana Madeira. The film opened at Fantastic Fest in September before Lionsgate put it in US theaters on October 2.

Rothe told the hosts the production shot on location in the Amazon in South America, and that snake wranglers worked the set to keep real snakes away from the cast during filming. She described the finished film's tone as somewhere between Anaconda and Sorcerer, attributing the comparison to director Nelson. She also touched briefly on another project, a film called Pathetic Fallacy that she shot on actual film stock last year.

Motherhood, Pearl, and a Fear of Aliens

Much of the conversation centered on how becoming a mother has reshaped Rothe's relationship to horror and to filmmaking. She described a protective, mama bear instinct that kicked in before she had kids, recalling that she told her husband their dog needed to be small enough for her to carry out of the house in an emergency. She connected that instinct to the body horror of motherhood itself, and spoke about pushing for one more take on the brutal opening scene of Affection, plus a demanding, stunt-heavy shoot that kept crew in the water alongside her for long stretches.

The group also broke down Ti West's Pearl, starring Mia Goth, running it through their meters and landing on low marks for jump scares and zero martinis for Pearl as a villain, while unpacking the character's drive to be chosen. Rothe said she would love to eventually play a villain and try something stylized in that vein, and the three joked about one day making a western together. Asked what scares her most, Rothe named aliens, which led into the group's tangent debating whether Dwayne Johnson is secretly one. New this season, every guest plays a different horror game. Rothe drew Pictionary and a horror mad-lib, revealed a xenomorph-and-Ripley bookend set she made in a sculpture class, and closed things out with a rapid-fire round.

Season 2 of The Horrored Girls streams free on Screamify across iOS, Android, web and connected TVs, with new episodes arriving weekly.
